The Burke Group had triplets!

Li passed his candidacy exam and both Justin and Thomas passed their qualification exam all in the physics department.  We welcome them to the group and thank them for not failing!  Check them out on the Members portion of the website.

Congratulations to Lucas, Miles, and Steve who just received word that their Phys. Rev. Lett. titled "Guaranteed Convergence of the Kohn-Sham Equations" appeared!  You can get a view of their work here or on our Publications page.

Kevin wins a fellowship!

Congratulations to Kevin, an undergraduate researcher in our group, for receiving a UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) fellowship at UCI for the 2013-2014 academic year. The title of his research project is "Investigation of Machine Learning Methods and Their Application to Density Functional Theory and Various Test Functionals."

Aikido master Li Li is no match for the power of DFT...

Congratulations to Zhenfei Liu, Lucas Wagner (& John Snyder) for being hooded (hood-winked) by Prof. Burke into a life of eternal academic servitude to DFT.

The application form is for those requesting financial support to attend the workshop. We urge you to apply as early as possible. Applications received by Wednesday, July 10, 2013 will receive fullest consideration. Letters of reference may be sent to the address or email address below. Successful applicants will be notified as soon as funding decisions are made. If you do not need or want to apply for funding, you may simply register. IPAM will close registration if we reach capacity; for this reason, we encourage you to register early.

We have funding especially to support the attendance of recent PhD's, graduate students, and researchers in the early stages of their career; however, mathematicians and scientists at all levels who are interested in this area are encouraged to apply for funding. Encouraging the careers of women and minority mathematicians and scientists is an important component of IPAM's mission and we welcome their applications.
